Description

Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many others lead back to this kind of sounds that have marked a real musical genre.

Southern Stalker borrows its voice from the myths of the past, offering the possibility to recreate the typical Southern tones of the second half of the last century.

The pedal is composed by 2 different circuits:

  • Boost: designed to work on certain frequencies;
  • Preamp/Overdrive: a switchable preamp stage in order to recreate the American tube amps break-up.

When Only Boost mode is selected, the pedal works as a standalone booster excluding the Preamp/Overdrive function. This mode is recommended if we have a tube amp on the break-up spot (loud enough).

If we want to use a clean amplifier we can activate the onboard Boost + Preamp mode, a particular circuit producing the natural tube distortion of a Fender Blackface amp (based on Fender Super Reverb).

Boost section
Boost can lead the guitar to obtain a truly innumerable variety of sounds, low settings produce a slight 60s distortion, coming from the pedal circuitry itself, while, with high values of Boost control, the gain can be increased up to +30db.

Twang control works on the voice of the pedal, a low value gives a thicker and enormous line, while raising Twang control you enter in a Rangemaster(ish)-style territories, offering a more focused sound.

Preamp section
With the appropriate lever we can activate the integrated Preamp/ Overdrive circuit and get the same effect as our guitar heroes from the Southern states, without the aid of a special amplifier and without necessarily having a very loud volume. This section simply allows us to control the output volume of the preamp, through the Blackface Output control, it’s important to consider that the internal calibration of this preamp has been carefully fixed to the break-up (about a little bit more than a half of the volume knob) of a Fender Super Reverb.

A key element of a possible setup including this pedal is the guitar volume (and tones of course). The advice is to experiment a lot and let yourself to be inspired by the myths of the 60s and 70s and how they exploited every single feature of their instrument.
