Dinosaural Cogmeister

Coggins Audio brings us the Dinosaural Cogmeister, a unique three-in-one gain pedal that has been a project over ten years in the making. The original idea came up in 2010 when Dan was playing in a cover band and was looking for a pedal that would fit between the legs of his microphone stand. It wasn't until 2020 that Dan finally decided to create a prototype, fine-tuning it at open mic nights until he was impressed with the results.

The Cogmeister started as a crowdfunding project via Facebook, with Dan hand-building the first 50 units. Demand quickly grew, and with Thorpy's help, the pedal is now produced in commercial production facilities.

This three-in-one gain pedal features three sections: Push, Drive, and Solo, each with its own true bypass stomp switch and corresponding LED. The unique arrangement of these sections and the distinctive gain structure provide a wide range of tonalities, from a clean boost to bold distortion.

The Push is a treble booster based on classic designs, while the Drive section reworks the circuit of the old Dinosaural Tube Bender, providing smooth and progressive distortion without typical diode clipping saturation. The Solo section uses Zener diode clipping for a midrange boost centered between 1.8 kHz and 2 kHz, providing clarity and punch in the midrange.

The Cogmeister has received praise from professional and enthusiast guitarists for its old-school sound, described as "sublime" by That Pedal Show. Since its introduction, it has gained popularity among musicians like Chris Turpin (Ida Mae, Kill It Kid) and Paul Stacey (Oasis, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, the Black Crowes), who praise its versatility and ability to evoke classic rock tones.

The Cogmeister is powered with a standard 9-volt DC (up to 12 volts) or a 9-volt battery connection. Its robust design and unique features make it an exceptional choice for those seeking anything from a clean boost to powerful distortion.
